The spiral forming process uses hot rolled steel coil as a raw material. Spiral welded steel pipes are categorized by its continuous welded helical seam from end to end, which also gives its additional stiffness. Because of the method of manufacture, a wide variety of diameters can be produced. The diameter tolerance is small, particularly with regards to ovality; and the pipe, due to its axial symmetry, has an inherent straightness. Material used are general structural steel that are in accordance with BS EN 10025. A commonly steel used are grade S275 for water pipes and S355 for structural pipes. Other steel grades used are ASTM A36 and API 5L steel grade up to X56.
Spiral welded pipes are produced in accordance with the dimensional andtolerance requirements of various BS EN, ISO, AWWA, API and AS/NZ specifications.
